Biology Engagement Scholarship Criteria

Each year, the Biology Department sets aside a portion of graduate student support funding to provide additional, flexible support for graduate students in the form of scholarships which can be applied to travel, educational expenses, and other costs. BioGSA is privileged to assist the department by providing recommendations for the distribution of these funds.

To better inform those recommendations, BioGSA tracks various department activities including attendance at departmental seminars and graduate student seminars, giving presentations, participation in outreach activities, mentorship, volunteering, and other forms of engagement within the department. BioGSA compiles this information and provides the department with a list of recommended applicants in a ranked order based on their attendance at various functions.

The criteria, terms, and conditions can be found in this form.

Outreach

The BioGSA outreach chair is responsible for developing and maintaining outreach projects, such as STEM events at local schools, in the Bryan-College Station area. Students participating in outreach have created a sustainable program by meeting with schools in the area to assess needs, obtaining resources for experiments, and collaborating with other departments.

If you would like more information, have questions, or would like to schedule an outreach event with us, contact us at biogsa@bio.tamu.edu.
